Saegertown Heritage Society

Specific Need

We especially need new members, as we consist of a small group of dedicated volunteers.  We had planned a big membership drive event for May of 2020, which we have had to cancel due to the pandemic guidelines.  We have also suspended our monthly meetings and opening of the Heritage Museum and the the historic Patrick McGill House.  At some point we will need to expand our space by an addition or purchasing a larger facility as the present museum is filled to capacity with displays and our numerous items.

Mission

The Saegertown Heritage Society strives to increase and diffuse knowledge and appreciation of history, sites, and buildings of historical and architectural significance in the boroughs of Saegertown and Blooming Valley and the townships of Hayfield and Woodcock. To preserve and share with the public artifacts, books, exhibits, programs and tours to educate visitors and residents to their historical importance to the communities involved as well as Pennsylvania and United States connections.

Profile

The Saegertown Heritage Society began anew in 1999 with the acquisition of the previous library on Broad Street for a historical museum.   In our 20 years we have acquired many unique donations of Saegertown area and general history memorabilia, along with a second building.  The Patrick McGill House is the oldest original structure in Crawford County.  We give guided tours throughout the warmer seasons to explain the family (founders of Saegertown, known at first as McGill's Settlement) and daily life on the Western Pennylvania frontier of the early 1800s.  As we continue to grow, we depend on financial support and volunteer help to continue our operations.
