Specific Need

Crawford Gives funds provide crucial operating expenses to uphold our year-round service to the public.  We save irreplacable Titusville area objects and papers.  We provide free classes to the public on local history, family history, and artifact maintenance. We organize a genealogy conference for the public yearly. The Heritage Center provides both a functioning museum/gallery space and a research library with digitizing equipment and an oral history booth free for public use. We rent our spaces in a historic building and need approximately $1000 per month, provided mainly by donations, to keep our heritage center open. 

Mission

Our mission is to preserve the Titusville, Pennsylvania, area’s heritage by collecting and maintaining area artifacts and archives; making these items accessible to the public; and using our collection to educate every generation to become stewards of our history.

Profile

Established in 1979, we have been collecting, preserving, storing, and displaying our collection that is over 150 years old.

Since moving to our Parkside Heritage Center space (the Old YMCA building downtown at 201 W. Sring St.), we have provided dozens of free classes to the public on digitizing, housing family photos, genelogical research methods, scrapbook preservation and more.  We host a history camp each summer for kids in third to fifth grade, focusing on activities across Titusville in historical locations (Tarbell house, Heritage Center, Woodlawn Cemetery, etc.). Our Woodlawn Cemetery indexing project has brought to light documents with family information for each burial that we are making free to the public on our Woodlawn web page (https://woodlawncemeterytitusvillepa.omeka.net/).  We launched an oral history program to conduct targeted interviews with members of the public in the Titusville area and save their stories for future generations.  We are a lively, excited group of folks, but we need support to maintain the amazing work we do.
