Foundation for Sustainable Forests

Specific Need

Healthy forests are core to our region's heritage and livelihoods. Your gift to the Foundation for Sustainable Forests will conserve forested lands across the region and support their stewardship. Those forests support rural communities while also protecting and enhancing critical wildlife habitat and ecosystem resilience, and providing public recreation access to the outdoors.

Thank you for supporting forest conservation on Crawford Gives!

Mission

The mission of the Foundation for Sustainable Forests is to protect forested land and support rural livelihoods through practices that maintain the long-term health of the land.

Profile

Since its founding in 2004, the Foundation for Sustainable Forests has conserved over 4,200 acres of forestland and open space in our region. These forests serve the community in so many ways - they support jobs and provide sustainably harvested forest products. They offer opportunities for public recreation such as hiking, hunting, and bird-watching. Although FSF is an exempt organization, these properties also stay on the tax rolls in support of local townships.

Author Aldo Leopold wrote, "Conservation is a state of harmony between men and land." In our timber-dependent community, it is crucial that land protection also align with the health and economic resilience of our local communities. As part of its conservation activities, the Foundation for Sustainable Forests is actively managing its forests to simultaneously provide the forest products and ecosystem services upon which we all rely.
