Mission
The Cambridge Springs Heritage Society was founded in 1976 with the museum opening in 1995. The museum has been providing the bridge from the past to the present by collecting and preserving records, photos, yearbooks, and artifacts for future generations. The main interest is preserving and sharing history both ancestral and historical relating to Cambridge Springs We provides genealogy research in support of family history. We offer historical educational resources to share and connect with the public. We support and get involved in local historical events and anniversaries relating to past businesses and people.
Profile
Since 2017 the historical society has provides a free presentation called History Nights about our Cambridge Springs two times a year. Each history nights has a new and different program about the town followed by homemake refreshments. The programs are well attended by the community. The audience is encouraged to actively participate to share any information that they know about the subject of the program. We all learn something new every program. We have recorded the programs and they can be veiwed at the museum.
Dale Docter composes a newsletter yearly full of interesting facts and stories about Cambridge Springs for our members.
The museum houses a room dedicated to Alliance College with artifacts. We actively share infomation with the Alliance College Alumni and answer any inquiries.
In December 2004 the grave site of Job Van Court ( first recorded settler of CambridgeBoro ) was moved from a field to the Cambridge Lower Cemetery and a headstone placed by the Cambridge Springs Heritage Society. The grave is maintained by the museum staff. The monument is deteriorting and is not repairable. Plan to replace it in the future.
Museum Tours are conducted yearly for the eighth grade students from Cambridge Springs High School. Private tours for groups can also be scheduled by calling the museum.
This last year we added a wooden glass display case in our local public library with a rotating display from our collection. The display that was at the pharmacy ended due to its closing. We are so thankful to the library for giving us space.
All these services are provided by a small group of dedicated volunteers.
