Specific Need

The You Matter Foundation exists because no one should have to walk through trauma alone.

Every day, people are carrying burdens we cannot always see. Some are living through trauma today. Others are working to heal from the past. The You Matter Foundation exists to walk alongside them, helping them find hope, resources, and the support they need to move forward.

Our goal is to raise $5,000 through Crawford Gives to provide service scholarships, trauma peer support, and educational programs that help individuals and families rebuild their lives after trauma.

Your donation helps remove financial barriers so people can receive support, confidence-building education, situational awareness, and personal safety training regardless of their ability to pay. It also helps me walk alongside domestic violence victims and survivors as a trauma peer coach—connecting them with community resources, supporting them through court and Protection From Abuse (PFA) proceedings, and helping them navigate the important aftercare that follows. Healing doesn't end when someone reaches safety, and neither does our support.

A gift of $30–$50 can provide a scholarship for one individual to participate in a workshop or training. Larger gifts help sponsor youth groups, women's groups, churches, and community organizations, making these life-changing programs available to even more people.

Mission

The mission of the You Matter Foundation, Inc. is to walk alongside individuals through past and present trauma while helping prevent future trauma through education, peer support, collaboration, and empowerment. We believe healing happens in community, and that every person matters. By equipping individuals, families, organizations, and communities to recognize trauma, respond with compassion, and support one another, we create a ripple effect of hope that changes lives.

Profile

My name is Susie Muir, and I founded the You Matter Foundation because I know what it feels like to believe you're alone. My own journey through poverty, domestic violence, and healing showed me the life-changing difference that one caring person can make. Today, I have the privilege of being that person for someone else.

As a trauma peer coach, I walk alongside domestic violence victims and survivors as they take their next steps toward safety and healing. Sometimes that means helping someone connect with housing, food, clothing, financial assistance, or other community resources. Sometimes it means sitting beside them during a court hearing or a Protection From Abuse (PFA) proceeding. Often, it simply means reminding someone they don't have to walk through it alone.

The You Matter Foundation also partners with churches, schools, nonprofits, businesses, and community organizations to provide education that helps people better understand trauma, build confidence, strengthen personal safety, and learn how to walk alongside others with compassion and support. Through service scholarships, we've helped make these programs available to Girl Scout troops, women served through the Pregnancy Care Center, and other groups throughout communities.

I believe every person has experienced some form of trauma in life. When we learn how to support one another instead of judging one another, we create stronger families, healthier workplaces, safer communities, and brighter futures.

At the heart of everything we do is one simple message:

Because when one life begins to heal, that healing doesn't stop with one person. It reaches families, friends, neighbors, and future generations. That's the ripple effect we're working to create—one person, one family, and one community at a time.
