Goal: $7,500.00
Specific Need
South Shenango Cemetery is a piece of local history that still serves families today.
With only burial fees and lot sales for income, caring for the grounds grows harder every year. Without community support, this old country cemetery could slowly fall to ruin — like so many others.
A gift today helps ensure:
- Graves are respected and accessible
- History is preserved, not lost
- Families know their loved ones’ resting place will be cared for — now and in the future
Mission
The mission of the South Shenango Cemetery Association is to preserve and maintain our historic cemetery with dignity and care, honoring those at rest while protecting this sacred space for future generations.
Profile
Many small, historic cemeteries slowly fall into ruin when maintenance becomes unaffordable. We don’t want that to happen here.
South Shenango Cemetery stands as a serene and historic landmark in our township. With plots currently available for purchase, we continue our long tradition of serving local families with dignity, affordability, and care. Our grounds are thoughtfully maintained to honor both past and future generations.
Donations to South Shenango Cemetery help cover mowing, repairs, and materials for Volunteer Workdays so headstones are upright, grounds are safe, and families can visit with dignity.
The cemetery serves as the final resting place for numerous military veterans whose service spans major conflicts in American history. Interments include veterans of the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Among those honored is a World War II serviceman who was killed in action in 1945. The veterans section underscores the cemetery’s importance as a historical and patriotic site reflecting the long-standing military contributions of the local community. Our oldest grave dates back to 1812, with 60 historic graves dating from 1812-1845, many now weathered by time and in need of thoughtful restoration.
Your support helps protect a place of rest — and a piece of our community’s history.
