Linesville Historical Society

Goal: $20,000.00

Specific Need

Our major expense this coming year is repairs to our roof - the chimney needs redone or replaced and the roof needs extensive work - current quote is over $10,000. We also need to finish waterproofing our basement; and new flooring for the gallery.

We continue in the process of organizing, scanning and inventorying our massive collection of local photographs, documents and ephemera and are in need of supplies to continue and expand this process. Items needed are: digital photo displays, acid-free folders and displays for our photographs, paper and more ink for our printer, digitizing equipment for our slides, negatives and microfilm (and/or a new microfilm reader/printer as ours is quite ancient), archival storage boxes for our vintage textiles, and the list goes on.

Mission

To promote and encourage historical research; collect and preserve records, photographs, relics and other items of local interest.

To promote public knowledge of, and interest in, local and national history.

Profile

The Linesville Historical Society was founded by Lawrence F. Lowing with the discovery of Charles L. Hayes' (a Linesville photographer) glass plate negatives in 1976. Lowing showed slides at special events, creating interest in founding a Society. The Linesville Rotary Club provided start-up money and legal work for the formation of the Society.

Our Society was originally stationed at the Linesville Borough Hall for over 15 years until we moved to our current location at the old Linesville Bank on the corner of East Erie Street and South Pymatuning Street in 1998. The old bank was generously donated to the Society by Robert and Kathryn Collins. We were granted 501(c)(3) status in 1990.

We have also just started a YouTube page that will feature videos from our past - vintage videos, public speaker meeting videos, interviews, etc. Our channel can be found: tube.com/@LinesvilleHistoricalSociety
