Hatch Cemetery Association

Goal: $3,500.00

Specific Need

The Hatch Cemetery Association is attempting to raise money to help maintain the cemetery.  We need help to keep the cemetery mowed and our old tombstones repaired.  As the cemetery is very old we no longer sell burial plots and our only means of maintaining the cemetery is through volunteers, donations and a small endowment we were able to establish over the past four years while participating in in the Crawfordgives program.

.

Mission

The Hatch Cemetery Association was formed in 1921 and incorporated in 1923 by a group of local residents, primarily from the Guys Mills/Blooming Valley area, with the mission of maintaining the "old Hatch Cemetery".   In the 1960's the association was reorganized with new officers and board members.  The organization remains active today with members volunteering to do the many tasks of maintaining an old cemetery.

Profile

The Hatch Cemetery, located on Route 198 between Blooming Valley and Guys Mills, is a very old cemetery.  Most of the burials, of which there are approximately 300, were done in the 1800's and very early 1900's.  We have evolved from an active to a historical cemetery. There are 30 veteran's tombstones in the cemetery. One is a Revolutionary War soldier, one is a WWII sailor who went down with his ship in the North Atlantic, twelve are War of 1812 Veterans and the rest are Civil War Veterans. Seven of the Civil War Veterans died while in service.   Many of the families in Crawford County have ancestors in the cemetery.
