Healing Hearts of Crawford County, PA

Goal: $500.00

Specific Need

Healing Hearts is currently in need of funds for our two annual remembrance ceremonies.

October 15 is receognized as International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Rememberance Day. This day is observed by the International Wave of Light in which anyone who knows a baby that has died can light a candle in their memory for one hour between 7pm and 8pm in your time zone. This effect creates a wave of continuous light around the world for 24 hours to honor the lives of babies who are gone too soon. On October 15, Healing Hearts invites all to join us at the gazebo in Diamond Park to carry on this tradition and remember with us.

The first Sunday in May (the Suday before Mother's Day) is recognized as International Bereaved Mothers' Day. We observe this day by honoring the mothers who may have more children than the eye can see. Many are not recognized in everyday life as mothers if none of their children remain earthside, and mothers who also have surviving children often can have difficulty in answering questions such as "How many children do you have?" This is a day, not only to remember the babies lost, but also to honor the motherhood of every mother. Healing Hearts of Crawford County holds a flower release at Woodcock Creek Park and invites all familes touched by this loss to join us.

Mission

Healing Hearts of Crawford County seeks to support parents who have been touched by the loss of a baby from early pregnancy through toddlerhood by providing education, awareness, comfort, and support. You don't have to grieve alone.

Profile

The death of a baby from any cause is a very isolating experience. Many times it helps a parent to talk with someone who has had a similar experience. Out of that need, Healing Hearts of Crawford County, PA was born. Past area support groups for infant and pregnancy loss have disbanded, current child loss groups can support anyone who has been touched by the death of a chlld at any age, and other current groups that focus on infant and pregnancy loss bereavement support meet in Erie county, requiring bereaved parents to travel.

Healing Hearts has previously supported members through a monthly support group. Though we are not meeting on a monthly basis at this time, the founders still meet regularly to discuss the organization and ways that we can continue supporting the community. If interest arises, we are prepared to once again meet on a monthly basis. We have also supported families on an indiviual basis through peer support. In 2014, Healing Hearts raised funds for a cooling device to give parents more time by delaying the processes an infant's body goes through after death. This device is now in use at the Meadville Medical Center's labord and delivery unit. The members of Healing Hearts can also provide additional information for resources for cremation and burial assitance, social media support groups, memorial pieces and gifts, other area organizations, etc.

The Founding Members of Healing Hearts all come from different backgrounds and have suffered different types of loss. We are available by phone (call or text), email, a public Facebook page, and a private Facebook group. Please, if you are suffering through the death of a baby, reach out to us. You don't have to greive alone.
