About the Center:

This agency truly believes in helping its neighbors and it can only be done by working together. Our mission is to assist, support and strengthen our community and at this time, we are asking you for your support. Your contributions to the Center help in so many ways. Your financial support to the Center means helping with all social determinants to health; like food, clothing, housing and anything else to meet your basic needs. The Center also prides itself in providing caring people to help those with nowhere else to turn. The Center is a hand up, not a hand out and we strive to help our clients learn to help themselves.

Our Housing Department believes a home is the base from which families grow and thrive. It is the key to health, educational achievement and business opportunities. Housing counseling helps families not only stabilize their housing situations, but also advance the quality of their lives. A home should be a person’s safe haven, a place to retreat from the outside world and the dedicated housing department works to help make this a reality.

Our Family Education Department knows children flourish when they feel loved, nurtured and supported by their parents and siblings. A strong family can be the source of emotional support, love, security and protections. The Center strives to assist parents in developing realistic and appropriate goals for themselves and their children. The Family Education Department understands that a healthy community starts with a healthy home and the Center strives to make this a reality!

Over the years, Center for Family Services has been mostly known for the 7 food pantries we operate, utility assistance we provide and items provided to meet most, if not all, basic needs. This is provided to our friends neighbors throughout Crawford County. Many families and individuals in our community are struggling with financial crisis and/or homelessness and our fears are the current climate may only make these concerns worse. Our Essential Services program aims to alleviate an immediate financial crisis by providing assistance to meet even the most basic needs.

The Center plans to remain serving our community for many years to come and asks for your support so we may serve our community to the best of our ability.

What a Donation to the Center means:

Your financial support to the Center means helping with real things like food, clothing, and caring people to help those with nowhere else to turn. This support will help the kind voice at the other end of the phone telling the new mom struggling with her mental health that we will help her with her parenting education needs. Your assitance will assure a family facing eviction or foreclosure has an advocate to work with the mortgage company and find an alternative way to save their home. Your commitment to the Center assures families have a home with food on the table and lights that are on. Your support helps put clothing on a child, food in their belly and keeps a roof over their head.

The Center cannot do the amazing things it does without your support. Please consider making a contribution to the Center for Family Services to help create a healthier community.

Profile

The Center for Family Services history dates back to the Civil War era and CFS is a direct descendent of an organization founded by a group of women in 1863 to aid families of Civil War soldiers, it  was called the Home Relief Society. We follow the vision of that original group and those who have followed in their footsteps by helping those who are struggling get back on their feet with life's essentials: food, clothing, shelter, and utilities. Your support helps us provide a fresh start for fire victims, domestic violence victims and other homeless individuals and families. To provide free winter coats for children & adults, free personal care items/toiletries, free household items, Christmas programs, and work & interview clothes for those in our community in need. When is comes to the essential services, the Center relies on the generosity of our friends and neighbors to help us do what we do. You are helping change lives, fulfill needs and giving people hope. We appreciate all that you do to make us stronger as a community.
