Center for Family Services, Inc.

Goal: $15,000.00

Specific Need

Goal:

$15,000

About the Center:

Every year, the Center for Family Services helps individuals in so many ways. We assist with utilities, rent/housing assistance, food, clothing, hygiene products, diapers, baby food, counseling/anger management and so much more. Unfortunately, this year COVID-19 caused significant economic and physical hardship to many families within Crawford County. We have continued to see this need grow. However, many individuals within this community answered the call and has assured the Center was able to continue providing support even during this most unprecedented time.

The Center has a rich history of turning despair into hope and opportunity and this will continue as we aim to create a community that is healthy enough to sustain these opportunities and strong enough to make permanent, positive change. This agency truly believes in helping its neighbors and it can only be done by working together.

During this pandemic the Center has continued supplying help through our network of food pantries county-wide and have assisted families with meeting their most basic needs. For years, the Center has been looked at as an agency of handouts. However, it has never been clearer that this agency provides a HAND UP. The Center plans to remain serving our community for many years to come and asks for your support so we may serve our community to the best of our ability.

What a Donation to the Center means:

Financial support to the Center means helping with real things like food, clothing, and caring people to help those with nowhere else to turn. This support will help the kind voice at the other end of the phone telling the 90 year old women that the Center will find a way to keep her utilities on. These dollars will assure a family facing eviction or foreclosure has an advocate to work with the mortgage company and find an alternative way to save their home and we will always assure their home has food on the table. Your support helps put clothing on a child, food in their belly and keeps a roof over their head.

The Center cannot do the amazing things it does without your support. Please consider making a contribution to the Center for Family Services to help create a healthier community.

Mission

Mission Statement: Building on our legacy of caring, the Center for Family Services exists to assist, support, and strengthen individuals and families throughout our communities.

Our Vision: Center for Family Services envisions a community that is safe, secure and stable. A ccommunity healthy enough to sustain opportunities and strong enough to generate positive, permanent change.

Profile

The Center for Family Services history dates back to the Civil War era and CFS is a direct descendent of an organization founded by a group of women in 1863 to aid families of Civil War soldiers, it  was called the Home Relief Society. We follow the vision of that original group and those who have followed in their footsteps by helping those who are struggling get back on their feet with life's essentials: food, clothing, shelter, and utilities. Your support helps us provide a fresh start for fire victims, domestic violence victims and other homeless individuals and families. To provide free winter coats for children & adults, free personal care items/toiletries, free household items, Christmas programs, and work & interview clothes for those in our community in need. We get limited funding for these programs and rely on the generosity of our friends and neighbors to help us do what we do. We are changing lives, fulfilling needs and giving hope and we appreciate all that you do to make us stronger as a community.

Here is some of what your support helped make happen last year:

  • $1,100 worth of Christmas presents to children who may not have received gifts otherwise.
  • 8 individuals experiencing homelessness were helped with emergency lodging as they transitioned into their own sustainable residence.
  • 5 families were able to get caught back up on rent to avoid eviction after experiencing personal hardships and security deposit assistance was provided to help someone get back on their feet.
  • You also helped with car insurance/bus tickets so our neighbors could get back and forth to work and provided utility assistance so families could continue to have even their most basic needs met!
