Crawford County Historical Society

Goal: $5,000.00

Specific Need

The Crawford County Historical Society owns and maintains the 175-year-old Baldwin-Reynolds House Museum at Mount Hope, the estate of United States Supreme Court Justice Henry Baldwin.  Not only does it attract thousands of local, national and international visitors per year, but it also is a popular site for weddings, small celebrations, dinners, and other special events.  We are embarking on a fundraising campaign to preserve the museum and make upgrades that are long overdue.  Phase One and the most crucial of the needs is to repaint the exterior and repoint the brickwork to stop the leaks and ensure long term stability.  Several large trees on the grounds have been lost during recent storms which have also created an urgent need to invest in the landscaping on the property.  With your funding support, we could also add an arboretum at Mount Hope!   Our goal with Crawford Gives is to raise $5,000.  The overall goal is $250,000.

Mission

  4. Promoting the county’s heritage through such means as outreach programs and in cooperation with other like-minded entities.

Profile

…IN OTHER WORDS

It is our goal to keep history alive for future generations! We promote national and local history with a strong emphasis on the preservation of real estate (such as the Baldwin-Reynolds House Museum and Tarr Mansion) and artifacts as well as archival material. Founded in 1880, the Society archive contains one of the oldest and most comprehensive repositories for genealogical resources in northwestern Pennsylvania, an extensive library of regional and state history and local authors, a large manuscript and photo collection and a massive collection of records of the Erie Railroad as well as Talon Zipper Company. We’d love to have you stop in and see the amazing things we have…we’ll see you soon!
