Crawford County Historical Society

Goal: $15,000.00

Specific Need

Be inspired.

Be informed.

Be transformed.

These lofty goals are those of the Crawford County Historical Society and our Baldwin-Reynolds House Museum. Serving as the hub for culture and the arts in northwest Pennsylvania, the Society is raising funds to complete two large projects - the exterior restoration of the Baldwin-Reynolds House Museum (the former home of United States Supreme Court Justice Henry Baldwin) and the transformation of its 3-acre grounds into the an arboretum and botanical garden serving thousands in our region!

With a total capital need at the museum of over $250,000 to repaint, repoint, landscape, add climate control, replace plumbing and electrical, and more, we are striving to reach $15,000 through Crawford Gives 2020, which will assist in repainting the museum and transforming its landscape.

Our eventual goal is to reproduce the late 19th century gazebo in the center of the pond (with one made of materials that will last in a moisture rich setting) ...while adding a bridge to reach it for families to watch the fish and brides to get the perfect photo.

Add to that the numerous volunteers who have been helping this summer with gardening and restoring areas of the grounds that have needed a facelift for a generation and we are well on our way to great things happening for the good of our entire community. We are creating a place for educational opportunities, a place for families to have a picnic in the park, and place for weddings, and a place to be inspired. With your help...we'll bring history, culture, the arts, and nature to our region for centuries to come!

  2. Making accessible and disseminating to the public its historical resources by such methods as become feasible
  3. Owning, restoring and preserving real property [The Baldwin-Reynolds House Museum, The Tarr Mansion, the Mosier Medical Museum, the French Creek Canal Kiosk, and more!]
  4. Promoting the county’s heritage through such means as outreach programs and in cooperation with other like-minded entities.

Profile

…IN OTHER WORDS

It is our goal to keep history alive for future generations! We promote national and local history with a strong emphasis on the preservation of real estate (such as the Baldwin-Reynolds House Museum and Tarr Mansion) and artifacts as well as archival material. Founded in 1880, the Society archive contains one of the oldest and most comprehensive repositories for genealogical resources in northwestern Pennsylvania, an extensive library of regional and state history and local authors, a large manuscript and photo collection and a massive collection of records of the Erie Railroad as well as Talon Zipper Company. We’d love to have you stop in and see the amazing things we have…we’ll see you soon!
