Child Development Centers, Inc.

Goal: $1,000.00

Specific Need

CDC currently is seeking funds to help cover the cost of playground safety and equipment upgrades, including high-quality climbing/sliding structures, soft durable artificial turf, and sturdy vinyl privacy fencing. Artificial turf greatly improves the appearance of the playgrounds and makes them much safer than grass, concrete and other traditional surfaces. The fast-drying, low-maintenance turf allows children to resume playing minutes after rainfall, maximizing play time and eliminating grass- and dirt-stained and torn clothing and shoes that often result from activities on natural or paved surfaces.

Mission

Educating Children To Succeed

Child Development Centers, Inc. (CDC) is a private, non-profit organization that provides comprehensive, high-quality child care and early childhood education for about 250 children at 3 centers in Crawford County, including the following:

East End Head Start, 640 Walnut Street, Meadville -- This site houses 5 federal Head Start classrooms that accommodate about 100 preschool-age children (to qualify for Head Start, household income must be at or below the federal poverty level, currently $25,750 a year for a family of 4).

Gill Commons Head Start, 275 Walker Drive, Meadville -- This location has 1 federal Head Start classroom for 20 preschool-age children.

Willow Child Development Center, 15438 State Highway 86, Meadville -- Enrollment at this facility (the former Meadville Elks Lodge) includes about 40 preschool-age children in 2 federal Head Start classrooms, 40 preschoolers in 2 Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts classrooms, and 30 infants and toddlers in 3 classrooms.

All of CDC's Crawford County centers have Star 4 ratings from Pennsylvania's Keystone STARS educational quality improvement initiative (the highest rating that Keystone STARS gives to the state's child care and early childhood learning centers).
