Academy Theatre

Specific Need

The Academy Theatre is preparing for a full 2022-2023 season featuring five mainstage productions. Since ticket sales cover less than half the cost of producing shows, we need the support of our community. Our membership drive, which opens with Crawford Gives, funds our general operating budget. This includes salaries for our employees, utilities, costumes, sets, props, lighting and the upkeep of our 137 year old theatre.

Our volunteers include actors, dancers, costumers, musicians, directors, set builders, painters, stage crew, sound and lighting technicians, ushers, and our Wing members that help in a variety of roles. Without these volunteers and the generosity of our donors, we would not be able to offer the quality live entertainment our community values.

Mission

The Academy's mission is to be a recognized center for the performing arts in Northwest Pennsylvania, and an integral part of the regional arts community. To perform in a fully functioning, comfortable and historically faithful facility, and to develop artistic appreciation and serve the cultural, social, and educational needs of the expanding audience.

Profile

Since its inception in 1885, the Academy Theatre, formerly known as the Academy of Music, has been a pillar to the historic district in downtown Meadville. From an opera house, to vaudeville shows then a movie house, the Academy has entertained over a century of audiences. Last year over 9,000 patrons attended performances at the theatre.
